Complete peace and salutations are upon the best human who performed and taught punctual Fajr prayers, Sayyiduna Muhammad, his household, his companions and all those who follow his guided path.

Yes, you read the title right. There’s a good feeling, a feeling of happiness, a feeling of bliss, a feeling of tranquility, and a feeling of fulfillment that punctual Fajr performers attain every other morning, but can’t share with you.

Like seriously? Yup. That’s right.

If you miss your Fajr prayers or delay it, then this article aims to take you off your blankets, off to the mosque, or on your prayer mat, to offer your Fajr prayers.

But first, why do we miss our Fajr prayers, sometimes or all the time?

Why Do We Miss Our Fajr Prayers?

When we miss Fajr prayers or delay it, it’s mostly due to our inability to wake up, or we oversleep. We are unable to wake up when we can’t overcome the sleepiness. And we may oversleep when we go to bed late.

Whatever our reason for missing Fajr prayers or delaying it may be, when me miss it, we are missing a great deal of goodness, indeed. Moreover, having an acceptable excuse for missing Fajr or delaying it may earn us forgiveness from Allah for missing it or delaying it. But that won’t secure us the goodness reaped or accumulated by the punctual Fajr performers.

In other words, even if we go to bed late, and carry ourselves out of bed, and go to the mosque half-conscious, we reap and attain the virtues of punctual Fajr performers.

Here, it’s necessary to highlight, that the joy in sleep in the last one or two hours before Fajr time is undeniable. The good news is that it at can be outsmarted… Yes, that can be outsmarted by offering Fajr prayer.

The Joy of Punctual Fajr Performers Enjoy

The good news is that, whether you fail to make it for Fajr prayer or you delay it due to an inability to wake up, or due to fatigue, and for that you enjoyed the joy of sleeping at the time, there’s a feeling of joy that is more superior, more blissful, more tranquil, and more fulfilling than whatever good feeling you’ll get for sleeping during Fajr time.

That joy is truly indescribable. And once you taste it, you won’t substitute it with anything else. One thing to note, though, is that it comes with a price.

To continue to enjoy that joy, you must continue to work on, and strive to wake up for Fajr. If you are one of those struggling to wake up for Fajr on time, then check out my  5 Practical Tips for Punctual Wake Up for Fajr Prayer.

If you still want to cherish the sleep of dawn time, and therefore continue to miss Fajr prayers, then you probably aren’t aware of the goodness you’re depriving yourself of. This goodness is a secret that punctual Fajr performers are not telling you. It has three components.

The Three Components of the Secret of Punctual Fajr Performers

Three components make up the immense happiness that only punctual Fajr performers reap. They are:

  • Performing the Sunnah of Fajr (two sets of Raka’ahs before Fajr)
  • Performing Fajr at the mosque (for men) or punctually (at home for ladies)
  • Listening to the Qur’an being recited during Fajr prayers.

Briefly, let’s elaborate on these components.

The Virtue of the Sunnah of Fajr

The two sets of rak’ahs to be performed before Fajr are one of the sunnahs the Prophet ṣallā Allāhu ’alayhi wa sallam never missed. Moreover, the one who performs it accumulates goodness that’s estimated to be better than the world and what it contains. For more on that, please check out “The Significance of the Sunnah of Fajr Prayer”.

The Significance of Praying Fajr On Time

On the significance of Fair prayers on time, the Messenger of Allah ṣallā Allāhu ’alayhi wa sallam says has informed that: “He who offers Ṣubḥ (Fajr) prayers becomes under Allah’s protection.”

The thought of being under the protection of Allah throughout the day suffices as motivation to push the ordinary Muslim to wake up for Fajr prayers at the mosque (for men) or punctually at home (for ladies). Check out the  5 Practical Tips for Punctual Wake Up for Fajr Prayer for more.

Listening to the Qur’an During Fajr

Any event that witnesses the presence of the noble Angels is a blessed event. The Qur’an recited during Fajr is attended and witnessed by the noble Angels. This is understood from a verse in Suran Al-Isrā’ where Allah says:

أَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ لِدُلُوكِ الشَّمْسِ إِلَىٰ غَسَقِ اللَّيْلِ وَقُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ ۖ إِنَّ قُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ كَانَ مَشْهُودًا

“Establish prayer at the decline of the sun until the nightfall, and [also] the [recitation of the] Qur'an at dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed.” (Sarah al-Isrā’, 17:78).

It’s said, that the ones who witness the recitation of the Qur’an at dawn (Fajr) are the noble Angels. And when the Angels descend to witness a noble thing, they bestow it with calmness and tranquility.
