When is a good time during the day to read Surah al-Baqarah? Can I read it in the mornings in one sitting? What must be done before and after reading surah al-Baqarah?

The Best Time to Read Surah al-Baqarah

When you choose to read Surah al-Baqarah in its entirety, you can do so any time of the day, morning, or night. This is very much depending on your situation, business, and commitments.

However, it’s always better to read it when you are more awake, alert and energized. This could be when you have had enough rest. I’m thinking of the early mornings or in the middle of the night. Otherwise, you can read it anytime convenient for you.

One Sitting or Multiple Sittings?

It will be better if you are able to read the entire Surah al-Baqarah in one sitting. But, then again, no harm breaking it into multiple sittings or sessions within one day. You may also divide it for two days, three days, four days or a week. The most important thing is that you read Surah al-Baqarah for the purpose and objectives that are indicated in this article.

At Home or On the Go?

When we read Surah al-Baqarah at home, it serves as source of safety and protection for the home. Thus, it’s better to read it at home.

By home, it meant your place of residence. If you stay at your workplace, then you should be reading it at your workplace. If you are in a visit to a relative or a friend, then his place is where you should be reading your Surah al-Baqarah.

Having said that, while it’s better to be it read at home, it’s also alright to read it on the go or in a remote location. You can read it on your way to work. You can also read it at your workplace, if you’re the boss of your job, or when your working hours are yet to start or are over.

Any Prerequisites?

There are no special prayers to be said before or after reading Surah al-Baqarah.  However, it’s important to be in the state of purity (ṭahārah) where you’ve taken your wuḍū’ before reading the Surah, just like you should before reading any part of the Qur’an. This goes without the need to mention, that a woman in her menses should refrain from reading the Qur’an until her menses is over.

Other than that, you are free to make any du’a of your choice after your reading. Just read it as you would to your normal (or usual) Qur’an reading.
