Ya Bunayya: #6 – Muslim Are Too Sensitive

Ya Bunayya!

They’ll tell you, “Why are Muslims so sensitive?”

Don’t feel insecure when that is said to you. Never!

Instead, why not you take it as a compliment? Yes, take it as a compliment.

Yes, we Muslims are sensitive because we are humans. And humans are extremely sensitive. We humans are so sensitive that we need two jabs of vaccination to get some immune against COVID-19. Yet, some still get infected despite been vaccinated.

The human heart is so vulnerable [read: sensitive or fragile if you will], just like clean cotton is. It reacts to and is influenced by its surrounding. Keep clean cotton in the room of a smoker, and you’ll have to dispose of it the next day.

The human heart (and mind) is so sensitive, that “I love you” makes his day, and “I don’t want to be friends with people like you” could kill his confidence the whole day, if not forever.

Mind you, your heart is the most valuable organ in your body. Lest you forget, your soul isn’t an organ.

Ya Bunayya,

No matter how knowledgeable you are about your faith and religion, your heart will be affected if you constantly listen to deviative opinions. Unless with protection from Allah. This happens even when you’re knowledgeable. What more when you lack the foundation in the knowledge of your religion?! What more when you can’t differentiate between Islam and Īmān?!

Sayyidunā Adam had the cleanest heart at his time. But after continuously listening to derivative opinions of Iblis, he ended up been thrown out of Heaven.

It’s silly to think that you’re more beloved to Allah than Sayyidunā Adam. And it’s absurd to imagine yourself more guided than Adam.

Ya Bunayya,

Surround yourself with people who will remind you of Allah. Always.

Relate to people who will remind you of your core purpose of existence. Always.

And value people who will remind you that your success lies in submitting to Allah. Always.

This is so serious that the Prophet ṣallā Allāhu ’alayhi wa sallam would constantly seek firmness of the heart upon Islam. He would say:

يَا مُقَلِّبَ القُلُوبِ، ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِـي عَلَى دِينِكَ.ـ

“O Allah, the Controller of the hearts, make my heart firm to your religion.”

Ya Bunayya!

We can only take things for granted when we successfully set our feet in Paradise. Until then, the path that leads to Paradise is one. At the same time, there are1001 paths each of which will lead to Hell in the least mistake.

Therefore, it’s absolutely fine to be sensitive. If you choose to be Muslim.

And it’s humane to be sensitive, for when you don clean clothes, you’re mindful of where you sit.

Allāhu Ḥāfiẓ!
